Story on the first female yoga teacher training program. I worked with illustrator Sean McCabe to tie yoga to prison, incorporating imagery of the actual training in the background. Gritty graphics and barbed wire were added as tie-through elements to continue the prison theme.

Concepted a moodboard art theme that represents the three separate dreams of the sources in the story. I created the moodboard by hand and it was photographed for the opener.

I wanted to make this layout as uniform as possible, with the same color, drop cap, and pull quote treatment throughout so all the yogis had equal treatment and the reader was drawn to the portraits.
Asana feature tapping the chakras. I experimented with different photo frame shapes to be able to show as much of the landscape as possible. The ombre in the headline treatment mimics the sunrise over the sand dunes.

A fun, fresh feature design with beautiful illustrations that embody the elements of yoga and sense of place. I worked intimately with illustrator Sara Franklin to make sure we got each element in these illustrations just right.
I concepted the photo illustrations that anchor this long read-piece. I wanted this design to feel fun and fresh.
I wanted this layout to continue to evoke the sense of play I created with the imagery, so I used large color bursts and a fun type treatment.
